Italy in Totalitarian Regimes

Italy in the Totalitarian Regimes had a very active participation. In 1922 a dictator named Benito

Mussolini became Prime Minister the in 1925 transformed Italy into a dictatorship. He had this

militarism form of ruling using the army to gain control over the people. He controlled the Estate

by fascism which produced fear in the people to keep them quiet. He had his followers in the

streets patrolling every corner of Italy he also took control of the communication so the people

where afraid of the power of Mussolini. Until his downfall in 1943. He was overthrown and

imprisoned by the people since they didn’t agree with all the war since the people were affected.

In the end Mussolini was bailed out of the prison and later assassinated by Italian Partisans.

Italy in the Great Depression

In Italy, as in many other countries, the years immediately after 1929 were characterized by a

major slowdown in economic activity.
The economic recession experienced by many countries at

the end of the 1920s and at the beginning of the 1930s the Great Depression also affected Italy.

The economic growth, and also the industrialization of Italy was no that different form those

other countries that were a power in economy, such as Great Britain, France and United States.

The most industrialized countries were the ones who suffered great part of the great depressions

influence and crisis. The Great Depression in Italy happened as follows: 1.-Persistent decline in

international trade. 2.- Large fall in hours worked and production in the tradable sector, but

negligible changes in the non-tradable sector. 3.- Large fall in investment. 4.- Stability of the real

wages.

At the end of the 1920’s, Italy started to implement a protection to the economy, like import

tariffs and currency control. At the end of the Great Depression, Italy had formed a new policy

project, such that they wouldn’t have another great economic breakdown.
